South Bend Orthopaedics has an immediate opening for a full-time or part-time Occupational Therapist.

South Bend Orthopaedics, with additional locations in Mishawaka, Plymouth, La Porte and Elkhart, Indiana has provided the orthopaedic surgeons for their athletic department since 1949.

ESSENTIAL FUCNTIONS:

Assesses, consults with physician, develops plan of care/goals with patient and family. Provides treatment based on physician orders.
Observes patient status and recommends changes in plan as appropriate.
Documents patient information for medical record.
Uses devices/apparatus applicable to OT treatments. Fabricates splints, braces, hand/wrist covers, etc., to support hand and upper extremity therapy.
Educates in verbal and written form patient/family about home exercise programs.
Serves as staff resource on occupational therapy issues.
Other duties as assigned.
Outpatient orthopedic setting with a specialty of hand and UE dysfunction.
Conservative and post-operative care.
Must work closely with our physicians, NP, and PAs, and other OTs in order to bring the best care possible to our patients.
Responsible for evaluating and creating POC for patients in order to return to ADLs, IADLs, and return to work.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

EDUCATION: BS in occupational therapy.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years experience, preferably in clinic setting. A CHT is preferred but not required. Previous Level II fieldwork placement in UE

REQIREMENTS: Current state OT license; CPR certification; TB test annually.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, standards and applications.
Knowledge of how to use OT equipment, devices and manufacture patient-specific therapeutic devices.
Knowledge of clinic policies and regulations related to infection control, safety, QI.

SKILLS:

Skill in appropriately evaluating and treatment of patients.
Skill in proper use of equipment and devices.
Skill in understanding of policies and regulations through providing comfortable, orderly, clean and safe clinic environment.
Competent in use of modalities, fabrication of custom orthotics for the digit, hand, wrist, and elbow, competent in anatomy and kinesiology of the UE.

ABILITIES:

Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, physicians and other staff and establish/maintain effective relationships.
Ability to assist in upkeep and organization of exam/exercise rooms, supplies, equipment.
Ability to set priorities and organize patient workload effectively.
