    Description

    The Virginia Beach City Attorney's Office provides effective and efficient legal services, promotes accountability, trust and openness in government and focuses on outcomes that are fair, equitable and balanced while protecting the best interests of the client.

    We are seeking an individual with an interest in and knowledge of Land Use, Zoning and Environmental Law. This position requires solid problem-solving and communications skills.

    The primary functions of the position include advising City departments (Housing, Planning and Agriculture), representing multiple boards and commissions, preparing written opinions based on legal research, representing the City in court on civil and criminal enforcement actions and administrative proceedings.

    Additional job functions include reviewing contracts and drafting ordinances and resolutions. Excellent writing ability, sharp analytical skills, and strong research abilities are essential. Experience in environmental regulatory, compliance, enforcement and transactional matters is preferred.


    This position may be filled as either an Assistant or Associate City Attorney depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant.

    The associated pay grades and ranges are as follows:


    Assistant City Attorney:
    A.17, $77, $120,093.69

    Associate City Attorney:
    A.21, $94, $145,974.66
