Description
Job Title: Public Health Nurse Community
Company: Government of Nunavut
This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.
The Government of Nunavut was recognized as one of Canada's top diversity employers, focusing on developing a diverse workforce that includes young people and recent graduates. Nunavut stands out for its rapid population growth and youthful demographics, striving to create a better environment for future generations. As a government entity, the focus is on enhancing its distinctive governance model by incorporating Inuit values, promoting the use of the Inuktut language, ensuring a representative public service, and fostering collaborations to fulfill Nunavut's potential. Successful candidates can expect competitive compensation, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation benefits, and various opportunities for professional development.
The Public Health Nurse (PHN) role involves delivering a comprehensive range of public health services to community members, aligning with established standards set by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH). The primary objective is to safeguard, enhance, and advocate for public health while reducing the prevalence of diseases and disabilities through proactive health promotion, protection, and prevention initiatives.
The PHN operates within the framework of the Department's Care Model and manages public health programs tailored to community needs, with a particular focus on maternal child health, school health, infectious diseases, and vaccinations. Collaborating with various stakeholders in the community, the PHN addresses a spectrum of public health concerns based on community priorities to empower the residents of Nunavut to lead healthy lives.
The ideal candidate is expected to hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a Nursing Diploma with a Public Health certificate, along with a minimum of two years of experience in public health nursing or a related field. Eligibility for registration with RNANTNU is mandatory. Desirable qualifications include prior experience in remote and isolated communities, completion of Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Skills Online courses, and certifications from the Canadian Nurse Association (CAN) and the Canadian Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC).
This position requires a clear Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check due to its sensitive nature.
Nunavut's official languages are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants can submit their resumes in any of these languages. Proficiency in multiple official languages of Nunavut is advantageous. Familiarity with Inuit communities, culture, geography, Inuit societal values (Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit), Inuktut language, and experience in a cross-cultural Arctic environment are also beneficial.
For full-time permanent nurses, the recruitment package includes various bonuses and premiums, such as a $5,000 bonus upon commencement, $5,000 at 18 months of service, $10,000 at 30 months of service, an Annual Frontline Allowance of $9,000, and a Monthly Retention Bonus of $375.
An eligibility list may be established for future job openings.
