Job Title: Air Reserve Technician

Description: This is a position as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to perform a variety of duties in support of airdrop training. The incumbent will operate one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles, forklift and K-loaders, rigging loads and packing of cargo parachutes.

Duties:

1. Drives tractor-trailers and/or other vehicles typically having a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds

2. Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered forklift trucks to facilitate loading and unloading duties.

3. Performs operator maintenance. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

4. Packs and maintains cargo and extraction parachutes.

5. Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

Qualifications:

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-5700 TRANSPORTATION/MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATION FAMILY

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (FORK LIFT OPERATOR) with little or no supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of over 32,000 pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers, heavy load in-line trucks, or interstate motor coaches. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo.

2. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and forklift operation. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered forklifts and other material handling equipment.

3. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance.

4. Reliability and dependability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules.

5. Knowledge of and skill in rigging cargo loads for use in airdrop training exercises.

6. Knowledge, skill, and ability of U.S. Army Quartermaster Parachute Rigger and Joint Airdrop Inspector.

Physical Requirements: Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.

Environmental Factors: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
