    Assistant Coach Job Description

    Position Title: FLAG FOOTBALL

    Reports To: DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS and HEAD COACH

    Position Summary: The ASSISTANT COACH provides crucial support to the Head Coach in
    managing teams and developing players. Their responsibilities include assisting with training
    programs, analyzing game strategies, offering individualized coaching, fostering a positive team
    culture, and ensuring athlete physical and mental well-being. Through collaboration and
    communication, they play a vital role in guiding athletes towards peak performance on and off
    the field.

    Essential Functions:
    * Provide leadership and direction for Flag Football offering guidance and support to team
    members.
    * Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, respect, and
    camaraderie.
    * Serve as a mentor and positive role model for team members, promoting personal
    growth and development.
    * Encourage academic excellence and reinforce the importance of balancing academics
    with extracurricular activities.
    * Learn and stay current with all team by-laws and regulations
    * Publicize and celebrate student achievements and student growth to the school
    community
    * Ensure adherence to school policies, rules, and regulations during all team activities.
    * Prioritize the safety and well-being of team members during practices, competitions, and
    travel.
    * Maintain open and effective communication with team members, school administration,
    and parents/guardians.
    * Conduct regular practice sessions to focus on skill development and improve individual
    and team performance.
    * Organize, coordinate, and supervise team activities, events, and competitions.
    * Maintain up-to-date roster information in the student information system
    * Record attendance for all practices, competitions, and all other meetings in student
    information system
    * Maintain all team documents in a single folder with shared access to the direct
    supervisor
    * Manage team logistics, including scheduling, equipment, supervision, and transportation
    for off-site events.
    * Provide regular updates on team activities, progress, and upcoming events.
    * Manage all team activity funds
    * Develops and maintains a sound physical conditioning program for team(s)
    * Teaches the techniques and fundamentals of the sport
    * Balances, individual, group, and team instruction

    * Promotes proper conduct, sportsmanship, fair play, and a competitive spirit among team
    members
    * Informs all team members of training and participation rules as defined by the school and
    the Illinois High School Association (IHSA)
    * Interacts with students in a manner that encourages respectful relationships among
    students and adults
    * Promotes the development of leadership and responsibility in students
    * Organizes and supervises practices, competitions, and transportation
    * Ensures that all personal injuries receive proper treatment and follow-up care
    * Attends all practice sessions and contests in the season set by the IHSA, unless
    excused by the Athletic Director
    * Supervises the locker room before and after practice during the sport season
    * Confirms the security of facilities and equipment after any event (doors locked, lights
    turned off, equipment secured as assigned.)
    * Does not leave the facility until the last participant fort he team has left. Ensures that all
    students have a way to get home in accordance with established policy
    * Handles all financial transactions in a manner prescribed by the board
    * Works cooperatively with school personnel to benefit students
    * Initiates parent contact in a timely, professional, and constructive manner
    * Attends all sport meetings and events. Helps organize end-of-season recognition
    activities
    * Works with parent groups and the programs they produce
    * Promotes the sport within the school community and provides program guidance to
    feeder schools when requested
    * Works cooperatively with school personnel to ensure that all building facility and safety
    needs are met
    * Constructs season-long practice schedule and submits it to the Athletic Director prior to
    the start of the season
    * Acts and speaks in an appropriate manner at all times
    * Responsible for the behavior of the team on any trip related to this assignment
    * Maintains knowledge of current trends in his/her field through participation in
    professional activities
    * Executes Board of Education, Central Suburban League, and Illinois High School
    Association policies and procedures
    * Responsible for equipment needs for appropriate level of the program
    * Responsible for equipment, staffing, and evaluation for the total program
    * Responsible for reporting scores and keeping accurate records
    * Uses appropriate channels to resolve concerns and problems
    * Is identifiable as coach during competitions
    * Duties assigned by the head coach or AD

    Goals of the Club:
    The goal of the Flag Football Team is to successfully compete as a team in regional, state, and
    national events.

    Calendar: Regular Season: August through October

    Required Events: Regular team schedule of daily practices, weekly competitions, and all other
    set up team meetings/events

    Hours Per Week: Average 16-25, Monday - Saturday

    Governing Body: IHSA

    Building: Niles West and Niles North

    Performance Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
    provisions of the District evaluation procedures.
