    Sr. Scientist, Genetic Medicine

    AbbVies growing Genetic Medicine group at Abbvie South San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist I or II to apply cutting-edge technologies to deliver innovative new therapies.

    The successful candidate will develop productive collaborations within Genetic Medicine Group and closely work with scientists with Oncology Discovery in a fast-paced environment.

    As an integral member of the Genetic Medicine Group, this individual will independently design bioanalytical assays to develop on site capability at AbbVie South San Fransisco to produce and characterize lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-mRNA. The candidate will need to have a proven ability to manage collaborations as well as excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to clearly present scientific concepts and results for scientific and non-scientific leaders.


    Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and analyze LNP formulations to support internal programs in alignment with Genetic Medicine Group.

  • Work closely with mRNA production, formulation team and other cross functional teams on multiple programs.

  • Maintain high level of productivity in the lab with management skills of junior scientists on experimental design, troubleshooting, assay optimization and data interpretation as needed.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously under fixed timelines.

  • Ability to independently author technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations both internally and externally.

    Qualifications

    Sr. Scientist II - Phd in biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field with at least 5 years of nanoparticle design and characterization experience. Sr. Scientist I - Phd plus no industry experience
    Strong knowledge and technical expertise in nanoparticle technology supported by publication record in peer reviewed journal and/or patents is essential.
    Knowledge in the basic pharmacology principles of nucleic acid therapies in terms of their efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity.
    Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
    Experience independently exploring, evaluating, and implementing new technologies, approaches, and/or instrumentation.
    Must have strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and scientific data presentation.
    Hands on experience with chemical conjugation to lipid and analytics is a plus.
    Having a basic understanding of immunology and cancer biology will be a plus.
