Summary:

The Patient Account Specialist Senior is responsible forthe accurate and timely billing and collecting of physicianservices.

Responsibilities:

Responsible forperforming billing, A/R follow-up and credit balance resolutionactivities which result in claim payment.
Identifies trends and their root cause toimprove the effectiveness and efficiency of the physician revenuecycle.
Provide excellent customer service tomarket personnel, insurance carrier representatives andpatients.
Document all follow-up efforts inpractice management system.
Assists withpatient education concerning insurance plan.
Follows the CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the HealthInsurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed toprevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected HealthInformation (PHI).
Maintains strictconfidentiality.
Uses oral and writtencommunication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear,positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUSMission.
Maintains established CHRISTUS Healthpolicies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety,environmental and infection control.
Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent withthe CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics and supportive of CHRISTUSHealth's cultural diversity objectives.
Supports and adheres to CHRISTUS Health ServiceGuarantee.
Performs all other duties asassigned.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent; collegecourse work a plus.
Ability to operatetelephone, computer, copier, fax machine and 10-key calculator bytouch.
Effective oral and writtencommunication skills
Detail oriented. Abilityto work independently and as part of ateam
Minimum three years of physician billingexperience.
Candidate must possess thefollowing:
Extensive knowledge of CPT, HCPCSand ICD-9 coding principles in a multi-specialty physicianpractice.
Thorough understanding of governmentand commercial payer guidelines as well as reimbursementmethodologies.
Ability to successfully performall aspects of the physician billing cycle including initial claimsubmission, payer rejection resolution, denial follow-up, secondaryappeal and refund processing.
Advancedunderstanding of medical terminology.
