    General Information:

    Job title: Unit Coordinator

    Department: Medical/Surgical

    Schedule: Full-time, 72 hours/pay period; Day shift - three, 12 hour shifts (6:00am-6:00pm)

    Weekend rotation: rotating weekends Weekend differential is available

    Holiday rotation: rotating holidays

    Position Summary:

    Under the supervision of the professional nurse, performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations in Acute Care.

    Position Responsibilities:
    • Communicates with members of the health care team, patients, and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as the telephone and intercom in a polite manner.
    • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
    • Assembles, completes, and processes patients' charts as indicated.
    • Keeps patient records accurately identified.
    • Transcribes doctors' orders per hospital policy and verifies orders transcribed by another Unit Coordinator promptly..
    • Orders unit supplies to maintain inventory of the unit's equipment stock and supplies. Assists with receiving, distributing, and sorting supplies brought to the unit. Prepares requisitions and reports for maintenance repairs.
    • Maintains an orderly and businesslike environment at the nursing station in order to assist members of the health care team in the performance of their jobs despite high-stress factors.
    • Completes any task as directed by Charge Nurse, Unit coordinator Supervisor or Director willingly.
    • Promptly pages Codes and Rapid Response situations and responds to assist and function as scribe.
    • Notifies registration of patient admissions/placement in Observation to floor as well as status changes during hospitalization. Registers patients as requested.
    • Assists with paperwork necessary for discharge/transfer of patient to a different hospital, nursing home, etc. , discharging the patient from the system once the patient has left the facility.
    • Initiates an incident report via the Event Reporting process in appropriate situations, notifying the Charge Nurse on duty at that time, all within a timely manner.
    • Keeps staff Nurses and Charge Nurse informed regarding changes in patient information.
    • Makes follow-up appointments for discharging patients as requested.
    Position Requirements:

    Minimum Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    Required Skills
    • Excellent typing and personal computer skills.
    • Good oral and written communication.
    • Excellent organization skills.
