REPORTS TO:
Activities Director, JHHS Building Administration
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Counsels and advises athletes, coaches and staff on matters pertaining to conditioning, diet, rest, exercise, reconditioning, and other similar health matters through individual conferences and/or group clinics.
* Works cooperatively with coaches in selecting protective athletic equipment and gear and in checking it for safety.
* Responsible for training and supervising student trainers.
* Works with the Activities Director to set a schedule to attend practices and contests on school and non-school days to include some Saturdays and holidays.
* Is available for all scheduled home games according to priorities set by the Activities Director.
* Is available for travel to some away events including, but not limited to, football, soccer, basketball and volleyball
* Oversees the taping and treatment of athletes prior to practices and competitions.
* Prevents and cares for athletic injuries sustained at practice sessions and contests.
* Maintains the final decision whether an injured athlete may continue in a practice session or game when present.
* Provides post-practice and competition care and/or treatment.
* Advises, formulates, and monitors rehabilitation protocols.
* Performs first aid and emergency procedures as needed.
* Establishes and prepares to implement an emergency action plan at all venues.
* Ensures that the proper preventative and safety measures are taken before transportation of injured athletes to physician or hospital by approved conveyance.
* Notifies the parents directly of any athlete taken to a physician and/or hospital in any emergency.
* Carries out the order of the physician or doctor in regard to treatment after injury is diagnosed. Does not allow any athlete to play or practice unless he or she has written approval by the physician or doctor.
* Works cooperatively with and under the direction of the physicians in respect to: a) rehabilitation procedures for athletic injuries, b) operation of therapeutic devices and equipment, c) fitting of braces, protective equipment, and other devices, and d) referral to doctors or hospital emergency room.
* Is experienced in and has the ability and skill to use ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and other modalities under the supervision of a physician.
* Responsible for the organization, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies during the school year for both Jackson Hole High School and Jackson Hole Middle School.
* Will prepare and submit a budget of medical supplies and equipment needed for the coming school year.
* Keeps accurate records of all athletic injuries including date of accident, appropriate evaluation, initial treatment, complete accident forms, physician's recommendations and release forms, if applicable.
* Adheres to HIPAA compliance.
* Completes concussion baseline of all identified athletes and follows TCSD protocol with regard to head injuries.
* Organizes care and prevention of athletic injuries for coaches who need the course to obtain their PTSB permit
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
* Be prepared to begin work at the WHSAA fall sports beginning date in August.
* Develops and maintains guidelines for health care of all athletic programs.
* Keeps containers labeled and marked properly.
* Is able to attend one national convention and one district convention each year to maintain certification as a nation certified trainer as schedule and money permits.
* Performs any other duties assigned by the Activities Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND MENTAL ABILITY:
* Possess sound emotional judgment.
* Possess positive communication in working with students, parents, community health professionals, coaches, and in-district personnel.
* Possess visual acuity, aided or unaided, to read and interpret accurately written reports of a technical nature.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors or Masters degree in Athletic Training.
* Maintain certification and continuing education requirements for licensure.
* Certified in the state of Wyoming as an Athletic Trainer
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires frequent physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting or carrying objects over 50 pounds. Athletic trainers must be able to maneuver in and around athletic fields, training facilities, and locker rooms, often in varying weather conditions. The role involves tasks requiring manual dexterity such as taping, wrapping, and using medical supplies, as well as occasional climbing, pushing, and pulling. Travel with teams may be required, and the position may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and communicable diseases.
