- Performing initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients.
- Providing ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients.
- Screening outpatients to determine need for further care.
- Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice.
- Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG's).
- Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities.
- Drawing blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable lab procedures as needed.
- Initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.
- Making interim summaries of the patient's medical record.
- Dictating history and physicals, admission notes, and discharge summaries.
- Dictating notes on procedures performed for which the Surgeon is responsible through participating in the care of Veteran patients in the Operating Room.
- Mixing, starting and administrating IV solutions/medications.
- Assisting in continuing the lapraroscopic/endoscopic/surgical program at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center.
- Providing consultative services in the Emergency Department.
- Sharing night call and weekends with other Surgeons.
- Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
- Providing age-appropriate care for the adult and geriatric patient.
- Responsible for understanding the aging process and to modify treatment plans to accommodate the changes that occur with aging.
- Assisting with collateral duties within the surgery section.
- Assist with collateral duties within the Surgery Service.

Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The Surgeon is an integral member of the Surgery Section medical staff. They are responsible for performing general procedures on patients referred to the Surgery Service by Primary Care and Specialty providers.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
