    Policy and Projects Analyst University of California Los Angeles Department Summary UCLA's Research Administration is a central administrative unit seeking a highly motivated and effective individual to support a team of human research protection professionals in the Office of Human Research Protection Program. The Office of the Human Research Protection Program (OHRPP) is part of the Office of Research Administration (ORA) and supports the approximate $1 billion annual research program at UCLA by providing leadership, professional guidance and administrative services to faculty, department administrators, and students. The OHRPP is the central administrative office supporting the UCLA Human Research Program (HRPP) in ensuring the ethical treatment of all human subjects in research conducted by UCLA. The OHRPP also helps ensure compliance with federal regulations, state laws, and University policies as well as national standards for research involving human participants. The OHRPP supports five UCLA IRBs (3 for biomedical research and 2 for social-behavioral research) and relationships with a range of external IRBs in overseeing approximately 6,000 active protocols at any given time.
    Position Summary The OHRPP Policy and Projects Analyst will provide high-level policy management for the UCLA Office of the Human Research Protection Program (OHRPP). Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: develop, implement and assess human subject protection policies and procedures for use by the UCLA research community; on-going evaluation, analysis, and coordination of enhancements for the online submission and tracking system; planning, coordination and execution of AAHRPP re- accreditation; propose, initiate and execute strategic projects as assigned; and provide backup to various functions in OHRPP as needed. The Policy and Projects Analyst reports to the Senior Director and is expected to function as the organizational expert with a high degree of independence. Work is assigned by the Senior Director with the expectation that status updates are provided and tasks are reviewed upon completion or at various intervals. *Remote work offered **Please upload cover letter and resume combined Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range.     Qualifications
    • Minimum 6 years Experience within Research Administration, preferably at a major research and teaching university with a medical enterprise. (Required)
    • 1. Advanced working knowledge of ethical principles and a substantial body of regulatory information regarding the protection of human research participants (DHHS and FDA, including how those regulations interact with state law), and the demonstrated ability to keep abreast of and adapt to changes in this body of knowledge. (Required)
    • 2. Working knowledge of AAHRPP Accreditation Standards and preparation of AAHRPP application. (Preferred)
    • 3. In-depth understanding of the operational requirements related to the management and implementation of the IRB review process. (Required)
    • 4. Maintain or achieve status as a Certified IRB Professional. (Required)
    • 5. Advanced working knowledge of a significant body of scientific and/or medical concepts in order to be able to converse knowledgeably with researchers as well as to analyze and create related documents and correspondence. (Required)
    • 6. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and analytical skills necessary to quickly identify and synthesize salient features from a fast-paced discussion of highly technical broad-ranging information into a cohesive and well-written correspondence to researchers and other audiences. Ability to collect, analyze and incorporate additional technical information from a variety of sources into this process. (Required)
    • 7. Exceptional skill to develop and deliver education and training in a variety of settings and tailored to different audiences to achieve clear dissemination of information. (Required)
    • 8. Excellent interpersonal skills, political acumen and tact needed to work with a wide variety of customers, including faculty members, research staff, students, IRB members and chairpersons, with colleagues and managers, and with external parties such as government officials in a consistently professional and service-oriented manner. (Required)
    • 9. Ability to work well with an electronic IRB review system; guide or provide assistance to others using the system for IRB submission, review and approval. (Required)
    • 10. Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality in dealing with protected information. (Required)
    Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
    • Bachelor's Degree Or equivalent background and experience, preferably in life, physical or social science or education. Advanced degree in science highly preferred. (Required) Or
    • Maintain or achieve status as a Certified IRB Professional. 3 years (Required)
