    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

    Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled communication, leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.

    Vents, Trachs, COPD, chest pain, cardiac cath, sepsis, CHF

    Surgical:
    laps, no big surgeries

    Vented patients:
    travelers will get vent trained


    Patient Ratios:

    RN:
    Day/Eves: 1:4-5

    Night: 1:6-8


    Tech:
    Day: 1:6

    Nights: 1:8


    Required Certifications:

    RN:

    BLS
    Skills required
    Wound care preferred, Surgical/post-op care, IV start skills
    Travelers WILL GET VENT TRAINED
    Telemetry MUST


    Support on the Unit:

    Charge nurse:
    light patient assignment
    Unit secretary, 24/ no HUC)
    Hospitalist, 24/7
    RT, 24/7
    Centralized telemetry monitoring
    Phlebotomy to assist with peripheral blood draws
    IV/VAD team central lines
    Techs are able to do glucose, vitals, remove IVs


    Charting System/Equipment:

    EPIC MUST
    Alaris
    Pyxis
    Client monitors


    Floating:
    all other MSU (travelers first)
    Orientation


    NEO:
    Epic orientation, badge, log in access
    12 hr orientation with charge nurse
    Will assist CRN s patient assignment


    Scheduling:
    Schedule made 6 week at a time, receive 2 week prior


    Weekend rotation:
    every other


    RTO:

    MUST BE SUBMITTED PRIOR

    On Call:
    None


    Holiday Expectations:
    One holiday per season
