    All About YouJOB SUMMARY:
    This position is an integral accounting leader for one of Saint Louis University's core missions, research. The Director of Sponsored Programs Financial Management will be a key contributor to the Saint Louis University finance team. This individual will be responsible for accurate, timely, consistent financial information of the University's sponsored programs.

    They will also be responsible for monitoring an effective internal control system over financial reporting surrounding the University's sponsored programs.

    This individual will be a leader in providing administrative direction to a team of nine, including three direct reports, regarding the daily operational goals and mission of the department.

    This individual will ensure administration of external funding for research is performed in accordance with federal, state, and University regulations.


    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Ensure the integrity of the University's sponsored programs financial records and the transactions entered into the University's general ledger are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance;Oversee reconciliation processes and procedures of sponsored programs financial transactionsEnsure all expenses recorded to grants within Workday are allowable, within the period of performance, within budget as prescribed in grant agreementsResearch and resolve accounting financial issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Office of Management and Budget Uniform GuidanceOversees and facilitates annual uniform guidance audits with external auditors along with any other ad hoc audit request from sponsors and the preparation of sponsor financial reports by the Sponsored Program Financial Management teamLead the development and maintenance of accurate, complete, timely sponsored programs financial statements and other financial informationWork directly with stakeholders to interpret financial trends and prepare presentations for executive management detailing the financial performance of the sponsored programs organizationReview monthly journal entries prepared by the sponsored programs teamsIn conjunction with Controllership and the Sponsored Program Accounting team, review month end account reconciliations prepared by the sponsored programs teamSupervise direct reports, which includes recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and coaching responsibilitiesReview reports, fund setup, and fund closeouts for externally supported sponsored programsFacilitate research by working with faculty and department staff on grant accounting reporting and questionsLead the distribution of the Principal Investigator Financial Management Dashboard, the Principal Investigator Monthly Transaction Report and the monthly grant certification process across the Principal Investigators, GoCentersEnsure all financial transactions, including labor, non-labor and indirect expenses, are recorded timely and accurately;Oversee the reconciliation and distribution of residual balances at the end of the grant period;Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place to limit cost transfers of grant expenditures;Assist in special projects as requested and communicate status of projects;Manage the preparation and distribution of internal sponsored programs financial statements and reports, maintaining the highest quality, reliability and accuracy;Develop and maintain the integrity of the sponsored programs financial reporting process and financial controls;Coordinate, develop and update written policies and procedures over the sponsored programs financial reporting process;Serve as the functional lead over the Workday grant management financial business process;Lead special projects to continuously improve automation within Workday of the grant management financial business process;Lead the annual review process over the DS-2;Ensure grant revenue is appropriately reflected in the University's consolidated financial statements;Maintain and strengthen internal controls over sponsored programs financial reporting

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


    The Director of Sponsored Programs Financial Management must possess a unique combination of skills and abilities to successfully navigate a complex set of priorities, including:Strong technical U.S.

    Generally Accepted Accounting Principles knowledge;Strong technical Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance knowledge;Strong knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting;Understanding of business processes and ability to identify risks and use data to assist with accurate financial statements;Knowledge of Workday, Adaptive, EXCEL, PowerPoint are preferred;Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization;Ability to accomplish results and effectively prioritize initiatives across units amid competing priorities in a complex multi-mission organization;Ability to recognize areas of process improvement and assist in implementing new processes and procedures;Consistently demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality, customer-centeredness, productivity, and continuous improvement.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    At least 10 years' experience in accounting;Several years of experience in a public accounting firm;BS/BA degree in accounting;CPA required;Managerial experience

    Master's degree in accounting or MBAFunctionFinancial Planning & Budget
