    This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

    As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, as a Molten Regolith Electrolysis (MRE) Electrochemical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in all phases of our MRE reactor development, including designing experimental test campaigns, cell prototype design, electrochemical testing, and electrochemical model development.

    In this hands-on role, you will work entirely onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We are seeking a dynamic electrochemical engineer to join our hands-on Technology Development team. The successful candidate will focus on pushing the boundaries of our MRE technology and implementing lessons learned into integrated systems. This role requires exceptional knowledge of electrochemical principles and the state-of-the-art in ultra-high temperature electrolysis processes.

    We work in fast-paced cycles of design, analysis, and Integration to deliver a scalable solution.     Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemical engineering, metallurgy, materials science, or an equivalent technical field.
  • Minimum 4 years of industry experience in a relevant field.
  • In-depth understanding of electrochemical principles and their application.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-temperature electrochemical systems.
  • Proven experience using potentiostat and electrochemical analysis techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry.
  • Proven hands-on experience building electrochemical cells.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB and /or Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to identify and implement technical solutions while working to implement those solutions with a broader team.
  • Proven ability to ensure timely completion of tasks and communicate schedule and budget risks with stakeholders.
  • Experience in collaborating with multiple teams and aligning with overall business objectives.
  • Capability to identify improvement opportunities and develop detailed improvement plans.
  • Proven ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience using thermodynamic modeling software such as FactSage or Thermo-Calc.
  • Familiarity with extractive metallurgy technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemical reactor design and scaling.
  • Familiarity with material characterization tools such as micro-CT, XRD, SEM, XRF.
  • Experience in designing and building prototype reactors for commercial applications.
  • Experience in the aerospace technology development environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of molten oxide electrolysis or molten regolith electrolysis.
  • Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $111,690-$156,366

    Benefits

    Benefits include: Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.

    Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.

    Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
