    SUMMARY:

    The machinist will set up and operate a variety of tools to produce precision parts and tools for a multitude of projects and equipment throughout the plant.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Perform all machine shop operation such as, but not limited to, lathe work, drilling, grinding, milling, shaping and hand tool workRepair and overhaul factory equipmentDesign and build manufacturing systems and equipment as neededSet up procedures to conform finished tooling to desired specificationsDevelop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketches of parts or productsAssist Production Manager in the development of new tooling, new systems, and new production machinesAssist in designing of dies and line tooling for new and existing productsAssist in the maintenance and up-keep of all machine shop equipment, as well as make recommendations to management for replacement or upgrade of shop equipmentAssist in the training of other personnel in the machine shopStay up to date on current machining and production technologies and recommend these technologies to managementContribute in establishing safe use of machinery in the machine shop and throughout the plantOperate all machine shop equipment to fabricate assigned projectsAssist in trouble-shooting equipment in plant and for customersInstall new equipment throughout the plant: including learning operations, adjustments, and repairsCheck quality of products and take steps to correct any problemsAssist the slitting department in set-up, repairing machinery as needed, and sharpening of slittersUtilize proper use of all precision measuring devices, such as micrometers, verniers, and others as requiredProduce machine parts to within one-half thousandth of an inchCalculate, through mathematics, the proper equipment that is required for a project, such as gears, pulleys, belts, air lines, etcAdditional duties could include; welding, brazing, plumbing, and carpentryOther duties as necessary and assignedQualifications


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Successful accomplishment of duties and responsibilities require the following:
    Knowledge of all presses. Have the ability to set-up, adjust, repair, operate, and maintain equipmentAble to study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample partsto determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece to assure the needs ofproduction and customersEDUCATION and/or


    EXPERIENCE:
    High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months related experience and/or training with completion of 8,000 hours Machinist Apprenticeship training to attain Journeyman Machinist papers as required by company or similar training as received elsewhere; or equivalent combination of education and experience

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, write, and comprehend technical instructions, drawings, and manuals. Ability to read and write short correspondence and memos in English. Have the ability to analyze technical procedures. This position also requires the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


    REASONING ABLILITY:
    Ability to define problems collecting data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Valid Journeyman Machinist papers
