    Description:

    Communication personnel will gather information during a call and determine if the patient needs to receive emergency or non-emergency service. They will dispatch the appropriate ambulance to the needed location and maintain communication with the crew and supervisors as needed.

    Communication personnel need to stay calm while collecting vital information from callers to determine the severity of a situation. Must have the ability to analyze and communicate to the appropriate first responder agencies with information about the call, this may include working with other jurisdictions

    Communication personnel keep detailed records on each call. They must be able to use a computer system to log important facts, such as the name and location of the caller.

    RESPSONSIBLITIES:

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Answer inbound calls for non-emergent and emergency medical calls for assistance.
    • Assess the information and determine the appropriate level of emergency response needed.
    • Arrange for various types of transport BLS, ALS and Critical Care.
    • Communicate the details collected during the call.
    • Input detailed information to the Vital Transport System.
    • Perform within the Vital Transport Compliance Program.
    Requirements:

    SKILLS/EDUCATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Be able to work in stress filled situations in a calm and professional manner
    • Ability to answer, screen and direct information from all types of calls
    • The ability to type a minimum of 30 wpm
    • Interpersonal skills including compassion, listening and communicating
    • Problem solving and organizational skills

    PREFERRED

    • EMD Certification
    • CPR Certificate

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Successful candidate must submit and pass a post offer, pre-employment physical examination, drug test and criminal background check
    • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening
    • Work within the Vital Medical Transport Compliance Program
    • Maintain all certifications and licenses throughout employment

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to work in different environments.
    • Position involves working in stressful situations at times. Must be able to maintain calm and reassure parties that may be hostile, ill, scared or suicidal.
    • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
    • Must have functional hearing and vision.
