Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
The University of Idaho's Department of Art & Design seeks applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Art History/Visual Culture. The College of Art & Architecture welcomes a dedicated professional with a broad understanding of the discipline to play an active role in the collaborative culture of our faculty. Field of specialization and sub-fields are open, but an ideal candidate will engage in successful interdisciplinary and/or collaborative research program commensurate with the University's long-term strategic goals. The candidate will provide general curriculum in art history and visual culture studies, contributing to the University's general education needs, and they will further engage in the training and mentoring of graduate students in our MFA program.

Teaching and Advising: The Art Historian position plays an integrated role supporting the BFA Studio Art & Design, BA Art, BS in Secondary Education/Art Degree, and MFA Art degrees. Duties of this 2-3 teaching load include coursework addressing art history and visual culture disciplines. The faculty member will aid in the evolution of innovative Art & Design curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels, support students through academic advising and function as a member of graduate committees. They attend regular faculty meetings and contributes to the collegiality of the department.

Scholarship and Creative Activities: Tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration. This focused research program must follow at least one of the following models of creative scholarly validation:
· Discovery (publication of historical, theoretical, artistic research, etc.)
· Teaching/learning (scholarly writing, paper presentations relating to pedagogy)
· Outreach/Application/Engagement (validated by peer reviewed publication)
· Artistic Creativity (curation & exhibition record, publications of visual work)

University Service and Leadership: Faculty members contribute to the shared governance of university, college and/or department committees.

Outreach and Extension: Faculty members provide support for CAA & UI outreach.

1 year of teaching experience at the university level outside of graduate teaching experience
Demonstrated knowledge to cover course content in Art History/Visual Culture courses

2 years or more teaching experience at college level outside of graduate teaching experience
