    IntroductionThe Maryland InsurancerAdministration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland'srinsurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers'rand insurance professionals' compliance with State law.

    Through the diligencerof a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts,raccountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaintrinvestigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitiverinsurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.rStaff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers,rconsumers, and other public and private entities.rThe MIA is charged with arbroad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriersrand insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct ofrfinancial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and therreview and approval of rates and contract forms.

    The MIA investigates reportsrof consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile,rhomeowners, and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to marketrconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Marylandrlaw.

    The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education androutreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands ofrindividual consumers annually.rGRADE21rLOCATION OF POSITIONBaltimore CityrMain Purpose of JobThis position manages all aspects of market conduct examinations and investigations involving life and health insurance companies and other licensees operating in the state of Maryland.

    The Chief Examiner oversees the senior examiners and examiners.

    This position is responsible for working with the Market Analysis Unit to select companies to be examined and to determine the type of market conduct continuum action to be performed utilizing guidelines contained in the NAIC Market Regulation Handbook for the examination of life and health insurance companies and other licensees.

    In addition, the Chief Examiner oversees and schedules appropriate market conduct investigations and exams necessitated by market trends, emerging compliance issues, and/or complaints.rMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelors degree from anraccredited four-year college orruniversityandsevenyearsof life and health insurance experienceas an underwriter, claims adjuster, insurancerproducer, insurance regulator, or related profession,whichrincludestwoyears of supervisory or management experience.

    rORrHigh school diploma orrGEDandelevenyearsof life and health insurancerexperience asan underwriter, claims adjuster, insurance producer,rinsurance regulator, or related profession, which includes two years ofrsupervisory or management experience.rDESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS* Possession of arCertified Insurance Examiner (CIE), Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE), MarketrConduct Management (MCM), Associate Professional in Insurance Regulation orrrelated professional designation.
