Director II, Special Education - Martinez, United States - Martinez Unified School District
Description
Primary Function:
To provide coordination and supervision for all special education programs in Martinez Unified and ensure appropriate special education and related services for all students with disabilities.
Essential Duties:
Coordinate all special education programs and services in Martinez Unified School District, including coordination with county and Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) programs.
Coordinate special education professional development, curriculum development, and program development.
Monitor and participate in the development of IEPs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and
implementation according to local, state, and federal regulations.
Assist, educate, and direct school administrators, teachers, and other staff in matters specifically related to the implementation of federal and state laws and regulations involving special education.
Coordinate activities with mental health agencies, hospitals, and other community agencies which directly involve special education students and/or programs.Adhere to federal, state, local and board rules and regulations.
Ensure all mandated reports and compliance documents related to Special Education are appropriately completed.
Assist in the development of and implementation of local procedures and policies for identification, evaluation, and placement of students with disabilities.
Oversee the maintenance of all IEP Web-based systems, Special Education information management systems and other special education records.Interpret laws, rules, regulations, and apply relevant provisions to situations that arise in Special Education.
Monitor budget development and provide staffing recommendations for special education programs.
Assist in the development of positive relationships with parents to support a better understanding of their child's unique needs.
Analyze assessment results and accountability for standardized state testing K-12.
Assist in recruitment and selection of special education personnel.
Provide coordination and management of District 504 process.
Actively seek and complete grant applications to expand educational opportunities.
Supervise and manage Martinez Early Intervention Preschool Program.
Supervise and evaluate school psychologist(s) and speech and language therapist(s) as appropriate.
Supervise and provide direction to program specialist(s).
Coordinate Martinez Parent Network
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; constant interruptions.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Sitting for extended periods; hearing and speaking to communicate and exchange information; using the telephone for extended periods; sufficient vision to assure accuracy of reports and documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and office equipment; lifting light to medium weight objects; kneeling, bending at waist, and reaching to maintain and retrieve files.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree, valid California teaching/service credential.
Valid Administrative Services Credential.
Minimum five (5) years teaching or administrative experience.
Experience in Special Education teaching or administration preferred.
Experience directing/supervising the work of others.
Ability to use technology effectively in communication and project design.
Administrative experience desirable.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid California driver's license.
