    Description
    JOB SUMMARY:
    • The Disability Services Coordinator serves as the organizational expert for patients and families, as well as faculty and staff, for the processes related to and completion of commercial disability and FMLA claims.
    • Coordinates and spearheads the management of FMLA, short-term and long-term disability claims, to ensure accurate and expedient completion of all essential forms and documentation.
    • Functions as the key intermediary between employees and employers, ensuring seamless information flow and documentation throughout the claims process fosters effective communication and collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers to clarify medical information, obtain supplementary details, and address any discrepancies pertaining to disability claims.
    • Provides comprehensive guidance and support to patients, empowering them with an understanding of their rights and obligations under FMLA and commercial disability insurance policies.
    • Utilizes expertise in conflict resolution and grievance handling to effectively address and resolve patient complaints associated with the disability claims process, consistently demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and a solution-oriented mindset.
    • Maintains confidential records of disability claims, ensuring uncompromising adherence to HIPAA regulations and rigorous compliance with organizational policies.
    • Processes applications for financial assistance through the departmental Patient Support Fund to assist eligible patients. Acts as the liaison for and has oversight of the utilization of various philanthropic funds through the Patient Support Fund.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Social/Behavioral, Healthcare, Business, or related field of study required. Social/Behavioral, Healthcare preferred.
    • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a hospital or physician practice setting with a social/behavioral, business or insurance related focus.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology needed to accurately review medical record, complete claims and assess for eligibility for funding programs, and demonstrated experience with electronic medical records.
    • Computer proficiency using multiple databases, with special emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
    • Superior problem-solving, communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills to identify and resolve complex claims discrepancies between patient, insurance companies, employers and Moffitt physicians.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply financial policies, and use sound, independent decision making when determining eligibility for departmental financial assistance programs and philanthropic fund programs.
    • Ability to promptly and efficiently react to shifting priorities, demands and timelines using analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with Moffitt physicians, staff, patients and external entities such as insurance companies and employers.

    PREFERRED SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
    • Knowledge of commercial disability programs and processes, and FMLA laws and policies.
    • Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy laws as related to protected health information.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health record navigation.
    • Knowledge of community resources to educate and assist patients regarding employee rights, federal leave policies, and the ADA.
