Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Molecular Sciences

Are you passionate about uncovering the fundamental principles that drive organic reactivity and eager to contribute to groundbreaking research in physical organic chemistry? If you aspire to work at the interface of experimental chemistry and theory, and want to develop new paradigms that could shape the future of catalysis and reaction design, this opportunity at one of Europe's premier research institutions may be the perfect next step in your academic journey.

About The University Or Research Institute

The Max Planck Institute for Coal Research (Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung), located in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, is renowned worldwide for its pioneering contributions to chemical sciences.

Part of the prestigious Max Planck Society, the institute boasts a rich history of discovery and innovation, having produced multiple Nobel laureates and leading scientists in chemistry.

The institute provides an intellectually vibrant environment, state-of-the-art research facilities, and access to a global network of collaborators.

Mülheim, situated in the heart of the Ruhr region, offers an international atmosphere and a high standard of living, making it an appealing destination for scholars from around the world.

Germany itself is a global leader in scientific research and innovation, and international students and researchers benefit from its strong academic infrastructure, cultural diversity, and excellent quality of life.

Research Topic and Significance

The available PhD or postdoctoral position is part of the ERC-funded project "Fundamental Principles of Organic Reactivity," led by Dr.

Guanqi Qiu. The Qiu group's research centers on exploring and defining new principles of organic reactivity and catalysis.

Rather than focusing on specific chemical transformations or optimizing yields and selectivities, the group aims to demonstrate innovative concepts through a variety of reactions and to generalize these findings into broad design principles for reaction development.

This research is highly significant, as it seeks to uncover the underlying rules that govern organic reactions, potentially transforming how chemists approach synthesis, catalysis, and the rational design of new materials and pharmaceuticals.

By contributing to this project, you will be at the forefront of efforts to redefine the very foundations of organic chemistry.
