    Overview:
    Position Summary:Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer at our Salt Lake City Utah facility.

    This Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the Mechanical Engineering team to provide support for the development of a heavy ion linear accelerator, beamlines, solid and gaseous target stations, and radiochemistry equipment and machinery.

    To execute this project, we are looking to add talented people to the team who are mission-driven, provide diverse perspectives, and who have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits.

    This team member will be primarily responsible for close collaboration within the Development & Engineering (D&E) team to carry out critical engineering tasks as well as opportunities to optimize component designs and processes.


    Responsibilities:

    What You'll Do:
    Collaborate with both chemists and accelerator physicists, as well as engineers and technical support staff, to develop designs for complex new devices requiring innovative designs and critical high-level analysisTake full ownership of projects from conception to operational deployment and beyondTranslate concepts into detailed engineering drawings, carry out design analysis, identify potential problems, and independently or collaboratively develop solutionsManage projects with efficient utilization of staff, schedule, and budgetTrain staff on equipment and procedures; ensure technical continuity and safety training for staffDirect activities, equipment, and staff assignments to ensure technical support meets costing and schedule objectivesDevelop test plans and participate in tests in qualify and evaluate the performance of equipmentPresent project results and designs and respond to questions concerning engineering design and operationProvide oral and written reporting on project status to project and upper management stakeholdersWork with vendors and internal resources to fabricate, assemble, and validate components and systemsPerform with a safety mindset at the forefront of all workQualifications:

    Minimum Requirements:
    Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related fieldRelated professional work experience (8+ years)

    Demonstrated understanding of mechanism design, structural analysis, heat transfer, and thermal analysis, and ability to apply these to solve engineering problems (5+ years)Proficiency with FEA software, preferably ANSYS mechanical (2+ years)Technical experience with the installation and commissioning of precision scientific, mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing, or vacuum systems (2+ years)Substantial technical experience with advanced knowledge and judgment in most of the following areas:
    Kinematics, linear motion stages, linkages, pneumatics, and mechanism designReliability engineering of highly complex and integrated mechanical systemsDesign, commissioning, and operation of high or ultra-high vacuum systemsWelding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes and techniques3D CAD Design and drafting in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDMProject management abilities defined as the ability to control scope, cost, and scheduleMetrology, inspection, quality control, and test methods related to manufacturingAbility to supervise and safely direct activities of small teams of technical personnelAbility to interact and communicate efficiently with researchers, engineers, designers, machinists, and engineering technicians to provide a high level of customer serviceFully proficient with digital productivity tools (Google Suite products, Microsoft Office products)

    Demonstrated analytical thinking and rapid learningPreferred Requirements:
    Masters Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldProfessional Engineering (PE) licenseHighly prefer experience in designing for and working within radiation environmentsExperience with nuclear Commercial-Grade Dedication (CGD) or related standardsExperience with remote handling of processes and productsExperience integrating precision mechanical systems into facility and system designGD&T and P&ID proficiency within ASME StandardsA love for Salt Lake CityLeadership experienceExperience working with a quality program and quality standards

    Physical Requirements:
    Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
    Must be comfortable working in a facility that produces radiation.
    Work to be conducted in both an office environment and the production facility.
    Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse, and manual dexterity.2-8 weeks of travel per year for site visits, visiting vendors, and attending conferences
