    Description


    Under direction of the Safety Director, provides guidance and support for all employees to ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations regarding safety and health.

    Responds to and assists with critical incidents that involve employees. Responsible for enforcing all Digging & Rigging policies and procedures.

    Requirements


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    Knowledge of and ability to understand Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, pointedly OSHA 1926; local and State safety regulations; Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA); and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

    Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

    Must have the ability to work under pressure effectively, adapt to an ever-changing schedule in a fast-paced environment, and ability to lift and carry equipment.

    Demonstrates strong customer focus skills, effective documentation, teamwork, detail-oriented, and communication skills. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.


    Education, Training, and Experience

    High school diploma or GED required. Possession of a valid class C driver's license required, with class A CDL preferred. First Aid and CPR instruction certificate(s) preferred. Experience of the crane rental and heavy industry preferred.

    Examples and Duties and Responsibilities and Expectations

    Upon hire and tenure of employment :


    • Conducts all business in a professional, respectful manner and in accordance with Digging & Rigging Inc.'s policies and procedures and outlined in the Compact of Respect .
    • Works closely with field employees and management to ensure safety compliance.
    • Performs related assignments as required.
    Within three months of hire:


    • Understands and enforces all Company safety policies.
    • Leads safety meetings (toolbox talks) on a regular basis for all D&R employees in various locations.
    • Monitors safety and health of employees in Company yards as well as on job sites with guidance from a Company Safety Manager.
    • Conducts regular inspections of Company yards with guidance from a D&R Safety Manager.
    • Conducts job site inspections and communicates any observed deficiencies to the Safety Director with guidance from a D&R Safety Manager.
    Within six months of hire:


    • Monitors safety and health of employees independently, both in their assigned yard locations as well as on job sites.
    • Conducts regular inspections of Company yards independently.
    • Conducts job site inspections and communicates any observed deficiencies to the Safety Director independently
    • Monitors and documents monthly equipment inspections Independently.
    • Regulates and monitors DOT compliance for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in assigned yard location with guidance from a D&R Safety Manager.
    • Assists D&R Safety Managers with the investigation and reporting of accidents, injuries, and near misses to management and insurance carrier.
    • Organizes and maintains safety-related documents independently that are sent on a regular basis to the Safety Department Coordinator for recordkeeping.
    Within twelve months of hire:


    • Completes OSHA 30 training.
    • Completes CPR/AED instructor training and capable of providing CPR/AED training to employees.
    • Investigates and reports accidents, injuries, and near misses to management and insurance carrier independently.
    • Regulates and monitors DOT compliance independently for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in assigned yard locations.

    Special Requirements


    • Must have enough physical strength and stamina to lift, move, and/or manipulate objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Position requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and the completion of work may require physical exertion.
    • Exposure to inclement weather is possible.
    • Possible extended workdays, long hours, and long-distance travel of more than 50 miles may be required.
    • Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level independently and as part of a team.
    • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
