    Job Description

    The City of Naperville's Police Department is seeking a full-time Crime Analyst who will be responsible for the collection and analysis of timely and relevant information on crime patterns and trends, which will assist department personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities.

    The position will research and analyze law enforcement data and identify and interpret criminal activity, patterns and trends. This full-time, non-union civilian position reports to a Sergeant in the Investigations Division.

    Salary:
    $68,149 (minimum of range) - $86,083 (midpoint of range)
    Duties

    The Crime Analyst will work with Patrol and Investigation Division members to provide accurate, timely and relevant analysis of crime patterns and trends that aid in the efficient deployment of department resources.

    The position will analyze and collate data for internal and external statistical tracking, prepare and publish crime analysis bulletins and will make presentations to staff on emerging or existing crime series, patterns and trends.

    The position will also develop and produce crime maps; attend briefings, Patrol roll calls, and Investigations meetings; provide tactical case support; and work closely with Crime Prevention Specialists to provide current crime trend and pattern information to better inform the community and to assist in development of prevention programs.

    The Crime Analyst provides tactical analysis (i.e. patterns, repeat incidents), strategic analysis (i.e. long term statistical trends, hot spots), intelligence analysis (repeat offenders, repeat victims, criminal organizations/networks) and administrative analysis (i.e. short reports, response to media requests) to assist the department become more effective through better information.
    Qualifications

    Position requirements include:

    Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Information Technology, GIS, Mathematics, or related field (Master's degree preferred); experience performing statistical analysis and research, preferred experience in the law enforcement field, (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted); and a valid Illinois Class D Driver's License.

    Certified Law Enforcement Analyst (CLEA) through the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) is required within the first 12 months of employment

    The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods and techniques of crime analysis, and knowledge of principles of statistics and quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis and demographic and social variables affecting public safety.

    The selected candidate must have the ability to collect, conceptualize, analyze, interpret and prepare police data and utilize this data to evaluate police deployment, responses and problem-solving efforts.

    The selected candidate must have demonstrated skills in data analysis, research methods, theory and statistics, preferably in a law enforcement capacity.

    Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely are critical to this position as are advanced skills in various computer applications such as relational databases, geographical information system (GIS) applications, Crystal Reports, CAD, Records Management Systems, etc.
