    The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at Catholic Health (CH) is a fully accredited center by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.

    (ACPE) to offer Level I/II, and Certified Educator CPE. The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)


    Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee position is a thirty six-month commitment to supervisory education within the Department of Pastoral Care and Pastoral Education at Catholic Health.

    She/he will exercise learning, instructing and providing pastoral care a manner consistent with the Catholic Health Services mission to humbly join together to bring Christ's healing mission and the mission of mercy of the Catholic Church to our communities.

    The trainee's main focus is to acquire the pedagogic skills necessary to effectively train persons of faith to deliver effective spiritual care in a medical setting.

    The position requires a minimum time commitment of 8:
    00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. five days a week.


    Supervisory Trainee Responsibilities:
    The CPE Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee faithfully attends to the assignments, direction and correction of the ACPE Certified Educator. Additionally, the trainee participates in providing Pastoral Care at the assigned medical facility.

    The Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee will conduct his/her ministry consistent with the values of the CH mission, and, in particular, as stated in the Ethical and Religious Directives, 6th Edition, Part 2, Directives 10 to 22.


    The Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee (CEC) will perform pastoral, administrative and educational duties including participating in didactic instruction and literature review while developing the skills, knowledge and experience of providing clinical pastoral supervision to residents and trainees.

    Under the guidance and supervision of a CPE Certified Educator, the CEC will assist with curriculum development, mentoring, training and supervising Chaplain Residents in providing spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff within the context of illness, suffering, loss and death.

    The Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee will function as a member of the multidisciplinary care team in an assigned clinical area, working cooperatively with Staff Chaplains, supporting CPE Trainees/Residents, and fellow Supervisory Education Trainees:


    • Support the work of the ACPE Certified Educator and learning of CPE trainees at all levels.
    • Continue to hone pastoral skills by providing spiritual assessment and pastoral care for patients/residents/individuals and families in assigned facility.
    • Document all pastoral interventions with patient and family in medical chart with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations.
    • Maintain open lines of communication with Roman Catholic priest chaplains and community clergy.
    • Collaborate in meeting on-going patient/resident/individual and family needs with on call clergy and CPE trainees.
    • Attend family meetings with medical staff and case managers by specific request on assigned units.

    Educational Responsibilities:

    • Specialized ministry in a negotiated area of the hospital, which is congruent with the Supervisory CPE trainee's skills and expertise. A high level of interdisciplinary involvement is expected.
    • Provide brief, supportive consultation or counseling to employees, outpatients, families and staff.
    • Respect a minimum 40-hour per week work schedule with expected flexibility due to educational curriculum.
    • Adhere to the Supervisory CPE Training curriculum including quarterly re-negotiating of learning contract, goals, and certification timeline.
    • Actively participate in Chaplaincy Supervisory peer groups.
    • Attend all scheduled Seminar on Supervision (SOS) Conferences.
    • Assists with the maintenance of CPE program records, reports, policies and educational resources.
    • Assists with development of the educational curriculum for CPE residency program.
    • Assists with the operations of the CPE residency program, including but not limited to: attending, observing, participating in, and/or facilitating seminars, group learning activities, and individual supervision, as well as reflection.
    • Participates in planning and implementing the administrative duties, including but not limited to: recruitments, admission interviews, and evaluations for CPE Residents.
    • Supervises each resident's clinical work by providing a trainee-centered learning environment, develops educational goals and evaluates each resident under the supervision of the ACPE certified educator.

    Accountability:

    • Report directly to the ACPE Certified Educator, and to the Director of Pastoral Care for clinical placement.
    • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with ACPE Certified Educator.
    • Adhere to quarterly evaluation by ACPE Certified Educator.
    • Maintain good standing with denominational endorsing body and chaplaincy certification body.
    • The ACPE Certified Education Candidate Training program is designed to be completed in 2.5 to 3 years. The Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee must complete the program within the designate training time designated by ACPE. At the end of the allotted training period 2.5 to 3 years, this position will be terminated.

    Requirements:

    • A practicing Roman Catholic
    • Certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains
    • Master of Theology or Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from an accredited school required.
    • Ordination or commissioned to function as a spiritual care provider by an appropriate religious/spiritual authority as determined by ACPE required
    • Endorsement with denomination or faith group, ordained, lay or professed.
    • The position requires one to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk and tolerate moderate noise level.
    • Incumbent as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
    • According to Ethical and Religious Directives 6th Edition, #9. "Employees of a Catholic
    Health care institution must respect and uphold the religious mission of the institution and adhere to these Directives. They should maintain professional standards and promote the institution's commitment to human dignity and the common good".


    • Demonstrate knowledge of and conduct himself/herself in conformity with the CH
    • Compliance Assurance Program and Standards of Conduct. Employee shall receive a copy of the CH Compliance Program Handbook and be aware of the CH Helpline. Employee will perform all work activities according to the highest ethical and legal standards.
    • Conduct himself/herself in conformity with the HIPAA Compliance Program and applicable institutional policies and procedures for patient privacy.
    • Play an active role in the CH Information Security Awareness Program by following and supporting all CH information security policies and procedures to the best of their ability. This will include reporting any suspected fraud, abuse, or violation of policy to the appropriate management or reporting mechanism.

    Experience:

    • 4 units of Level I/Level II ACPE Certified Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required
    • Demonstration of spiritual care and conceptual competence as evidenced by the attainment/completion of Level I/Level II Outcomes required

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • CEC - ACPE Certified Chaplain Educator Trainee or eligible to be certified within 180 days required
    Salary Range

    USD $65, USD $70,000.00 /Yr.


    This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.

    The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
