    Job Title: GIS Technician I Department: Mapping & Records

    Reporting Relationship: Mapping & Records Superintendent

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Grade: H

    General Responsibilities

    Under general supervision, performs various tasks, including digitizing company assets, updating GIS database, processing field data, collecting data, and creating GIS-based maps; supports the GIS environment, policies and procedures, standards, and the accuracy and consistency of the GIS information. Collect BWW utilities, update and populate existing maps with new and old BWW utilities. Create special projects for Board Personnel, Engineers and other Department Supervisors when requested. Update and maintain MicroStation/CAD drawings when required on a minimal basis. Provide, support, and help GIS Tech, Drafter, Senior Drafter, Engineers and employees with the location and attribute information for BWW utilities when needed.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Perform various intermediate-level duties in support of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program.
    • Digitize company assets into the GIS database and enter associated data into appropriate databases.
    • Edit, transpose and complete complex spatial data, worksheets, main extensions and contract agreements from as-built drawings, maps, CAD drawings, GPS coordinates, county land base maps, and other source documents into the GIS databases.
    • Perform intermediate quality control review of system mapping and ensure work performed adheres to company procedures and standards.
    • Interpret and analyze various datasets, layers, aerial photography, imagery, maps and other source data.
    • Prepare, import and export GIS layer files and datasets for and from various internal departments and external agencies.
    • Utilize, modify and understand geoprocessing models, data driven pages and map series.
    • Perform spatial and attribute queries and utilize definition queries.
    • Understand and utilize table joins and relates.
    • Provide assistance and support to field repair/maintenance departments in identifying, tracking, and documenting customer complaints and project areas to more efficiently route field crews.
    • Provide assistance and support to various departments in identifying and tracking areas needing maintenance and rehabilitation.
    • Receive, process and incorporate field personnel's GPS data into the SDE database.
    • Collect field GPS data and gather other geo-referenced data as needed.
    • Participate in the training, cross-training, and mentoring of peers and coworkers within the department.
    • Assist in design changes of spatial databases and application implementation
    • Assist in creating, updating and maintaining CAD drawings.
    • Provide Mapping and Technical support to BWW Board Personnel and Employees when needed and requested.
    • Provide digital and hard copy maps to new and existing maps or projects when requested.
    • Assist, verify or locate BWW utilities for employees and outside agencies as needed.
    • Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education

    Associates degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science, Computer Science, Geography, or a combination of a GIS Program Certificate or a related field required.

    Experience

    Two (2) years of experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and map development. Experience in database entry, spatial data manipulation, data collection, and generating GIS-based maps.

    Knowledge of the use of ESRI's Arc GIS 10.1 or newer and/or ESRI ArcGIS Pro 2.x or newer.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Valid Driver's License required.

    • Ability to move about
    • Ability to analyze and interpret consumer meter issues and recommend Board policy/procedures
    • Ability to use various business and GIS-based computer software applications, including Microsoft Office
