    Spanish Clinical Faculty Position

    The School of Languages and Cultures (SLC) in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Teaching (non-tenure-track clinical faculty) in Spanish to begin in Fall 2024.

    The person hired for this position will normally teach four classes of three credits each per semester. The teaching assignment will include courses in Spanish as well as courses that are part of the College of Liberal Arts' Integrated Cornerstone first-year curriculum focused on written or oral communication (e.g., SCLA 101, SCLA 102). In addition to teaching, some service activities with SLC and the Spanish and Portuguese program will be expected, such as participation in extracurricular events or program-building/program-promoting activities, as arranged with the faculty in Spanish and Portuguese and the SLC Head. There may be opportunities for program-related special assignments, such as community outreach activities, language program coordination, or others, which may be accompanied by a reduced teaching load.

    Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The clinical faculty position at Purdue is benefits-eligible and starts with a three-year contract (renewable), and there is a pathway to promotion to the ranks of associate and full professor.

    Education
    The candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Spanish/Latin American Literature, or related fields prior to the start of this position.

    Experience
    The candidate should also have experience teaching various levels of Spanish and demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence. Preference will be given to candidates who have academic background or experience in language pedagogy, second language learning/acquisition, language program administration, or teaching areas of expertise that align with department strengths (e.g., linguistics, literature, Spanish for the professions, intercultural competence, service-learning).
