    Utilities Intern (Business & Customer Services)

    Classification Title: Management Intern, C55

    Location: 14 S. Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater, FL

    Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

    Pinellas County Utilities is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Summer for the Business & Customer Services Division. Pinellas County Government is a top choice employer in the Tampa Bay Region.

    The intern will gain knowledge and experience in:

  • Local, federal, and state regulations, utility rules, and procedures.
  • Customer service terminology, grammar and bookkeeping methods.
  • Maintaining and updating account information.
  • Researching and verifying property ownership information.
  • Operating automated office equipment and software.
  • Collaborating with team members to reach common goals.
  • Providing excellent customer service.
  • Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, this candidate shows knowledge, experience, and/or interest in billing procedures, account research, and governmental roles and responsibilities.

    Essential Tasks

  • Interpret billing information provided on customer accounts.
  • Apply appropriate procedures as needed.
  • Assist the Section Manager with assigned tasks.
  • May prepare reports for staff related to assigned projects.
  • Some clerical assignments such as scanning or filing.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
  • Position Specific Requirements

  • Currently enrolled toward a degree from an accredited college or university or on a leave of absence from an accredited educational institution.
  • Experience with basic computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Highly Desirable

  • Some experience with customer services.
  • Some experience with administrative matters.
  • Some experience with utility service problems.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze moderately complex assignments.
