    JR53631 Trade Compliance Manager We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Trade Compliance Manager to join our Legal team on a permanent basis.

    This hybrid opportunity will be based in Malaysia, Penang and will be part of the team to support the APAC region.

    In the role of Trade Compliance Manager, you will have the objective and responsibility for being the subject matter expert [SME] on everything related to Trade Compliance in Malaysia and to develop and support our trade compliance program across the APAC region by raising our trade compliance standard and mitigating risks.

    This opportunity would be ideally positioned for someone who has operated as a Trade Compliance SME in Malaysia and has a broader knowledge of customs and export control matters within APAC who is keen to use their experience to influence, shape and implement our global trade compliance program.

    The opportunity to significantly influence how we support, re-design and implement Trade compliance to our facilities in Malaysia.
    Responsibilities and Tasks
    Malaysia Customs Subject Matter Expert [50%]

    Single point of contact and Trade Compliance Officer (TCO) for any Trade Compliance related issues and queries, both internally and externally.

    Formulating and implementing trade compliance program and activities throughout Malaysia.
    Evaluating our business operations and processes.
    Consulting across business operational functions, providing guidance and contributing specialized Trade Compliance knowledge.
    Recommending solutions and determining requirements to build efficient and effective processes and internal controls.
    Developing and documenting trade compliance processes and disseminating information to all relevant stakeholders.
    Global Trade Compliance Daily Operational Support [50%]
    Business Partner for cross-functional teams [Sales, Operations, Logistics etc] by executing the following processes:

    SAP Trade Data Management – Ensure accurate Trade data is stored in our SAP system [HS Classification, Export Control classification].

    Screening transactions – Ensure transactions are screened and adjudicated.

    Audit Preparation and Submissions – For Annual Audits and Tax authorities relating to trade compliance, including working with Finance to evaluate and report transfer price adjustments to the Customs authorities.

    Recordkeeping – ensuring that import and export documents are kept according to statutory requirements or Smiths recordkeeping requirements, whichever is longer.

    Valuation and Life Span for second hand tool - queries arising from customs duty

    Working with the Global Trade Compliance teams to define and execute project objectives and continuous improvement initiatives and internal controls in Tariff Classification, origin determination, customs valuation, Export Control and Sanctions.

    Implementation, monitoring and roll out of Trade Compliance Policies within the APAC region.

    Education Desired :
    Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in
    Trade Compliance
    Supply Chain Management
    Import Export Logistics Management
    Traffic/Customs Management.
    Related field of study Support and contribute to developing, modifying, and executing company policies.

    Experience:


    7-10 Years work experience in Customs and/or Trade Compliance in Malaysia, with 3-4 years recent experience in managing global international trade issues.

    Experience in LMW regulations and setting up its process will be a plus.
    Experience in preparing and presenting compliance trainings to business stakeholders and internal business function partners'
    Experience in working in two or more countries in the APAC region on trade compliance matters
    Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills and proficient in MS office and SAP
    Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
    Person of integrity, assertive and able to maintain a firm stance on compliance, whilst being commercially aware.
    Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required
