Summary:

The Supervisor of Surgical Services Coordinator role is responsible for the day-to-day activities related to staff and events that involved the surgical recovery and preservation of an organ donor. The incumbent will maintain expertise of all activities related to job functions required of a Surgical Services Coordinator. The role requires being knowledgeable of hospital and OPTN and CMS policies related to the donation and recovery of organs for transplant. Duties also include input into the orientation of new surgical staff, as well as any special projects which may be assigned.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Performs at a supervisory role to assigned team members, including:
Root-cause analysis and process improvement initiatives related to department functions.
Conduct employee appraisal, performance improvement plans, and corrective action plans under department senior leadership.
Approve employee timesheets, expense reports and PTO requests in accordance with STA guidelines and policy.
Assists People Services and Education Departments in recruiting, interviewing and training clinical staff. Takes the lead in a collaborative manner to support external training to hospital partners.
Maintains skills of a Surgical Services Coordinator by performing on-site and in-office preservation as needed, according to donor activity. Participates in national on-going training and national conferences to maintain knowledge of latest practices and evidence-based research.
Maintains some office hours in addition to on-call responsibilities.
Performs, oversees and provides clear direction to others related to all expected duties of an SSC, Senior SSC, Advanced Practice SSC.
Actively monitors case activity, providing input for optimal strategies.
Ensures accuracy and completeness of documentation for department related activity (e.g. BTM (materials management system), kidney pumping, imports, etc.)
Provides support and motivation to surgical staff.
Rounds on direct reports.
Provides feedback to staff to allow for improvement within the department and overall professional growth.
Makes on site visits to ensure STA policy is performed
Ensures proper documentation of training.
Ensures adequate staffing.
Oversees communication related to the surgical recovery and preservation of organs.
Other duties as assigned.

OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has the potential of occupational exposure

The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

Minimum 3 years' experience as a Surgical Services or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience as a preceptor in a clinical setting.
Prior leadership experience in a clinical setting preferred.
Certified Transplant Preservationist, Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator, or eligible through the ABTC.
Expert knowledge of OPO standards & OPTN policy related to job function.

Qualifications and Skills:

Must have ability to provide clear written and oral instruction related to complex processes, communicate effectively with all personnel levels, and represent the organization publicly.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
Detail oriented with the ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.
Ability to simultaneously execute upon multiple complex processes, provide accurate documentation, and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.
Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
Current Driver's license required.

Physical Environment / Working Conditions:

Normal office environment, travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile in order to meet all the

duties and responsibilities of the position.
