    Job Title: Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

    Company Overview:

    Plastic Express has been meeting the bulk trucking, bulk terminal, packaging, and warehousing needs of the plastics industry since 1970. With strategic locations, modern systems, and dedicated employees, we provide custom-tailored logistical solutions to fulfill challenging customer needs.

    We operate from 22 full-service facilities, over 40 bulk terminals, and 52 railcar terminals with more than 8,500 railcar spots across the country. We are located near nine major ports in the U.S. and rely on our rail infrastructure for imports/exports and regional distribution.

    In addition to plastic commodities, we handle non-plastic items such as paper rolls, steel, building materials, and other dry bulk materials. Our fleet consists of approximately 250 trucks and 250 trailers, performing full bulk truck distribution business.

    We have over 600 employees nationwide, with our headquarters in Houston, TX. Our goal is to exceed customer expectations, and our can-do attitude sets us apart from the competition.

    Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Job Summary:

    The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on large production trucks and trailers. This includes building new tractors with Plastic Express installed equipment and decommissioning old/obsolete tractors.

    Essential Functions/Duties:

    • Safely perform preventive maintenance repairs and service on Plastic Express trucks & trailers (non-DOT)
    • Repair truck/trailer parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary
    • Oil and lubricate moving parts on trucks & trailers to ensure effective performance (non-DOT)
    • Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts
    • Install replacement parts; accurately maintain inventory for trucks & trailers
    • Assist in identifying the causes of unexpected breakdowns; offer solutions on how to repair & prevent similar events in the future
    • Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies
    • Coordinate with Terminal Managers to schedule regular maintenance on trucks PTO, drivelines & other mechanical parts
    • Collaborate with Terminal Manager or AVP regarding new parts being added and/or modifications that will be required to keep the fleet safe and moving
    • Maintenance a clean work area and exercise Safe Work Practices at all times

    Qualifications:

    • High School degree or equivalent
    • Skilled Aluminum Welder
    • All-around mechanical understanding of hydraulic, air, and electrical systems

    Physical Demands:

    • Prolonged periods standing and walking
    • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service trucks & trailers
    • Must be able to visually inspect trucks & trailers
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
