Under general supervision an incumbent of this class is responsible for technical work involving the operation of complex x-ray equipment for the purpose of taking radiographs of various designated portions of the body using special procedures to assist physicians in the detection of foreign bodies and diagnosis diseases injuries Work involves proper positioning patient development x-rays maintenance radiographic files prescribed period Lead Technologist Special Procedures distinguished Senior Technologist incumbents possess training previous experience performance special radiological procedures such as CAT Scan equipment assigned specialty areas Partial supervision exercised over x-ray technicians non-professional clerical support staff quality control work providing technical assistance Does related work required Examples Work Illustrative Only Positions instructs patients preparation taking x-rays using special procedures such as CAT scan angiograph neurographic studies Makes adjustments x-ray equipment correct setting examination considering proper voltage current desired exposure time prescribed attending physician Takes x-rays prescribed requisitioned all parts body diagnostic purposes Develops reviews exposed films Prepares maintains records files radiographs Purges outdated files directed Troubleshoots maintains x-ray equipment Requisitions film supplies needed Mails x-ray films organizations physicians requested Provides training technical direction lower level technicians non-professional support staff Required Knowledge Skills Abilities Attributes Thorough knowledge techniques used in radiography including those used special procedures such as CAT scan angiographic neurographic studies thorough knowledge modern techniques involved taking x ray films diagnostic purposes good knowledge operation all types radiographic equipment including those used special procedures good knowledge human anatomy good knowledge techniques radiography skill operation minor repair X-Ray producing Equipment ability understand carry out complex oral written directions ability direct instruct others ability handle sick injured patients properly thoroughness reliability good judgment physical condition commensurate requirements position Minimum Acceptable Training Experience Possession valid license current registration issued New York State Department Health Radiologic Technologist field diagnostic radiography two years experience hospital X Ray department private radio logical laboratory performing types diagnostic work including operation special procedure Equipment such as Cat Scan Angiograph Neuro graphic Equipment Special Requirements must certified maintain current registration American Registry Radiologic Technologists ARRT field Radiography PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS About Us Westchester Medical Center Westchester Medical Center premier provider advanced medical care Hudson Valley flagship Westchester Medical Center Health Network 895 bed academic hospital Valhalla NY local residents acute-care services Level I trauma burn care organ transplants advanced neurovascular procedure region serves primary referral facility Hudson Valley hospitals lifeline more than million
