OverviewSaiia Construction, a MasTec company, is currently hiring for a Chief Estimator to join our team in Birmingham, AL.
The Chief Estimator is responsible for, but not limited to business development, client engagement, budget development/submission, detailed and comprehensive quantity takeoff, accurate cost evaluation, subcontractor/supplier bid solicitation, subcontractor/supplier scope, qualification, cost evaluations, risk evaluation, and bid submission to win competitive projects for the organization.
Lead a team of estimators and take-off technicians who support the organization in the bid process for new work.
Identify and examine specifications such as sketches, blueprints, sample layouts or material bills to calculate the cost for labor, material and equipment using pricing schedules and historical data.
Preparing quantity and cost estimates.Develop and maintain good healthy and effective relationships with internal and external clients.
Identify and evaluate all the technical issues that are related to projects.
Prepare the estimate plan and schedule.
Being present and actively participating in pre-bid meetings and site tours.
Review all final bid packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal submission.
Effectively manage and facilitate collaboration amongst team members.
Manage post award submissions to client and subcontractors.
Prepare cost reports and present results or findings to management, client, vendors, or subcontractors.
Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
Manage performance appraisal process for direct reports.
Manage disciplinary process for direct reports.
Manage time off request process for direct reports.
Performs additional assignments per Division Manager's request.
Qualifications
Proficiency with all necessary technological tools, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint , and Outlook with the ability to use other software as necessary.
Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera or similar construction scheduling software.
Understanding of civil engineering design and construction methods and industry standards.
Knowledge of mass grading and earthwork, stream restoration and rehabilitation, storm water management, erosion control, and utility infrastructure requirements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to disseminate information effectively.
Strong organizational and self-management skills, which equip a chief estimator with the composure and ability to focus and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to pay attention to detail, good decision-making skills, and the ability to approach and handle problems strategically.Adequate knowledge of corporate objectives that impact estimation, market strategies, techniques, and contracts.
Experience with job costing, scheduling and estimating contract changes.
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline required.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a heavy civil construction environment estimating required.
Minimum of 3 years managerial experience required.
Must have and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License with driving record that meets Saiia's risk management guidelines.
