    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or general education degree; college degree preferred.
    • 2+ years of experience in a medical office working as a medical assistant.

    • Ability to work well with physicians, anticipating their needs regarding patient treatment.
    • Hands-on experience with electronic medical records

    • Strong knowledge of medical terminology

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times.
    • Interviews patients to obtain history, family history, and history of allergies and medications and records information on patients' charts.
    • Prepares treatment room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate physicians needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely.
    • Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedures such as excisions, ED&C, etc.
    • Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
    • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
    • Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits.
    • Completely and correctly fills out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents. Document laboratory pick-ups. Call Labs for outstanding tests.
    • Answers telephone inquiries from patients, or primary care physicians.
    • Stocks all exam rooms.
    • Ensures patients receive medications that requires pre-authorization from insurance carrier.
    • Receive, process and document all requirements, submit the required documentation, and update the Prior Authorization submission documents when necessary
    • Review chart documentation to ensure patient meets medical policy guidelines
    • Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency
    • Obtain authorization via payer website or by phone and follow up regularly on pending cases
    • Maintain files to include up to date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations
    • Initiate appeals for denied authorizations

    Spanish speaking a plus.
