    Our client, a large legal organization in Manhattan is looking for a contract paralegal to join their growing team. This is a long term contract position, with opportunity for direct hire at the end. This role will site onsite in Midtown Manhattan 4 days per week. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IFYOU CANNOT SIT IN MIDTOWN 4 DAYS PER WEEK.

    Responsibilities:


    • Assist clients in completing forms, releases, and other documents

    • Draft legal memoranda, pre-trial motions, subpoenas, and orders to produce

    • Serve as a liaison between attorneys and clients

    • Obtain and review client records and determine course of action

    • Prepare written reports summarizing compiled information

    • Proficiency in computer and word processing skills

    • Serve subpoenas and other legal documents

    • Handle client and agency correspondence in connection with cases

    • Second seat trials

    • Assist with case preparation for trial and disposition

    • Obtain and copy court files

    • Interview and assess client requests for services

    • Research, digest, and outline case records (e.g. medical, criminal history, schools, etc.)

    • Assemble court files and materials for trials, appeals, stays, and writs

    • Some knowledge of New York criminal law and criminal procedures

    Key Requirements:


    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited school

    • Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills

    • Ability to multi-task

    • Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable, but not required

    • Experience in and/or commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income people is strongly desired

    • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

    • Proficiency in legal research
