    260HIGH SCHOOL NIGHT LEAD CUSTODIAN

    POSITION SUMMARY
    :

    Employee is responsible for the building, its security, for efficient utilization of supplies and equipment, and for providing direction to those who work under him/her. Employee performs a wide variety of custodial, building and grounds maintenance, and cleaning tasks. Report any preventative maintenance tasks that need to be done to the Head Custodian.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.     • Complete work assignments daily and help other workers as necessary.
    • Know and execute the building security procedures as needed.
    • Support the maintenance of safe and healthy work/play conditions throughout the campus.
    • Utilize appropriate energy conservation measures.
    • Observe and follow safety and health regulations and District guidelines.
    • Maintain excellent communication with the principal or immediate supervisor.
    • Establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with staff and students.
    • Give assistance to and work harmoniously with community groups as needed.
    • Operates heating equipment as instructed by superiors.
    TYPICAL DUTIES:
    Classroom Cleaning
    Clean all assigned classrooms.
    Vacuum, dust, mop and spot mop when necessary.
    Empty and clean wastebaskets.
    Clean chalkboards/whiteboards, trays and erasers when needed.
    Dust all horizontal surfaces, vents and univents.
    Clean walls and around doors and light switches when necessary.
    Dust lockers, beams, etc., regularly.

    Lavatories/Locker Rooms
    Clean and disinfect fixtures, floors and partitions daily.
    Check and replenish supplies as needed.
    Clean and disinfect shower rooms daily.
    Clean lockers as required.

    Gymnasium and Playground
    Dust mop and wet mop daily and remove scuff marks from walls.
    Clean behind bleachers and clean drinking fountains.
    Perform required inspections of bleachers, playground equipment, and play areas, and complete required inspection forms.

    Cafeteria
    Empty garbage.
    Clean lunchroom after lunch, including wiping down tables.
    Set up and take down cafeteria tables.
    Clean kitchen area.

    Security
    Secure all outside doors and windows at designated times.

    OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:
    • Assist other custodians with problems they may have, and checks their work for productivity, time utilization, and quality.
    • Keep the Head Custodian informed of inventories and needed supplies.
    • Monitor persons entering the building for night activities; i.e., open and secure designated areas as needed.
    • Daily check mailbox, e-mail, and phone messages for communication from staff and administrators.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    Must have at least two years of professional custodial experience.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Hold a current Grade IV boiler license for gas-fired or oil-fired boiler, if the building utilizes a boiler for the heating system
    Excellent safety record

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    School board policies and procedures
    Operation and maintenance of electric heating system, if the building utilizes electric heat
    Computer, phone, and e-mail skills at a basic level

    ABILITY TO:
    Organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently without close supervision and able to pay strict attention to detail
    Speak, read and follow written or verbal communications, and take instructions from supervisor
    Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines
    Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers
    Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co-workers
    Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality
    Relate effectively with parents, staff, students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
    Maintain a good work attendance record, be punctual, and follow District procedures for reporting all absences
    Supervise up to five co-workers assigned to his/her shift
    Take a leadership role in working with the total custodial staff
    Delegate responsibilities and work assignments effectively with custodial staff
    Act in place of Head Custodian in Head Custodian's absence
    Identify, direct, and follow safety and health regulations
    Organize time, materials and equipment to work in an efficient, thorough manner
    Perform job responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations

    This position requires physical stamina. Position also requires sitting, lifting, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, walking, grasping, holding, cleaning, removing, unlocking, opening, pushing, pulling, hearing, speaking, and writing or keyboarding. This position will lift at least 35 lbs. on a regular basis and at least 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.

    Position requires operating dangerous mechanical systems and/or machines, exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals, high voltage, inclement weather and varying temperatures. Must be available to work unusual hours in emergencies.

    WORK SCHEDULE
    This position typically works swing shift Monday through Friday.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
    This position reports to Building Principal and/or Designee.

    REPRESENTATION
    International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) - Local 302.

    LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
    Level E on the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Salary Schedule. This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE - Medical, dental, vision; sick and vacation leave; life insurance; retirement.
