    ADVERISTMENT


    Under the leadership of the Economic Development & Planning Department, the Chief Electrical Inspector will act as the supervisor to a team of Electrical Inspectors assuring the practices of installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems on residential, commercial, and industrial property standards are met.

    This is a great opportunity for those seeking to use their supervision skills and knowledge of Michigan Residential, National Electrical Codes and related code standards within the City of Lansing.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS &


    TRAINING:


    Must be registered or meet eligibility requirements in accordance with Public Act #47 of 2016 for registration as a Provisional Electrical Inspector and Plan Reviewer and make application for provisional registration for this title within thirty (30) days of notification of selection for this position.

    Registration as an Electrical Inspector and Plan Reviewer must be retained for the entire course of employment in this position.

    FAILURE TO OBTAIN OR RETAIN REGISTRATION WILL RESULT IN APPROPRIATE ACTION CONSISTENT WITH THE TEAMSTERS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT.

    EDUCATION &


    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    The City of Lansing reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements.


    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Seven (7) years or more of experience with electrical systems of which three (3) years must have involved conducting electrical inspections.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
    • International Code Council Certification as an Electrical Inspector preferred.

    PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS:


    This position requires the individual through assistance or on their own to walk, standing, sit, stop, lift, crawl, bend, twist, hear, listen, speak, finger dexterity, visual acuity and the ability to enter crawl spaces.


    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

    Mainly in the field conducting inspections with exposure to dust, dirt and a wide range of other undesirable environmental conditions.


    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

    The essential position functions listed below do not include all functions, which may be found in this position as duties, and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or modified at any time.


    • Supervises and evaluates work of subordinate Electrical Inspectors and provides them with needed work direction and training.
    • Enforces and interprets the Electrical Code and all other applicable rules and regulations which affect electrical systems being installed or repaired in the City of Lansing.
    • Makes regular inspections to sites which require the ability to stoop, bend and crawl through spaces in order to examine and test electrical equipment.
    • Provides assistance as required in inspecting rental properties.
    • Performs a wide range of administrative duties including maintaining inspection records and writing reports as required.
    • Drives an automobile to and from inspection sites and for other purposes.
