    Princeton Day School is seeking a dynamic and passionate educator to join our faculty as an Upper School Architecture and Design Teacher . This position offers a unique opportunity to inspire and guide students in exploring the principles of Architecture and Design, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and technical skills development. The ideal candidate will have interest and experience in craft and making, both analog and digital.

    Our program at Princeton Day School is a unique curriculum that begins in 8th grade and continues into the Upper School. The studio focused curriculum fosters creativity through every step of the process. Concept Development, Iteration, Refinement and Final Product are all equally important in our studio as we encourage our students to develop high level, thoughtful work that reflects the ideologies of the time while paying tribute to the history of the craft.

    For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:

    • Develop and implement curriculum: Design engaging and rigorous curriculum that covers the fundamentals of architectural design, history, theory, and practical application.
    • Teach four courses: Lead classes in architecture, guiding students through hands-on projects, lectures, discussions, and critiques. This includes grading, comment writing and use of learning management software.
    • Serve as an advisor to a group of Upper School students.
    • Manage the Architecture studio and budget, including supplies, materials and equipment.
    • Foster creativity: Encourage students to think creatively and express their ideas through various mediums such as sketching, model-making, digital design tools, and more.
    • Provide individualized instruction: Support students of varying skill levels by offering personalized feedback, guidance, and mentorship.
    • Incorporate interdisciplinary connections: Integrate concepts from other disciplines such as art, math, science, and technology to provide a comprehensive understanding of architecture.
    • Collaborate with colleagues: Work collaboratively with other faculty members to align curriculum, share best practices, and create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
    • Engage with the community: Establish partnerships with local architects, firms, and organizations to provide real-world learning experiences and opportunities for students to connect with professionals in the field.
    • Stay current with industry trends: Stay abreast of developments in architecture, design technologies, sustainable practices, and other relevant areas to continually enhance teaching practices and curriculum. Required / Preferred Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Fine Art or Design with a focus on spatial design.
      • Previous teaching experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates with industry experience and a passion for education are encouraged to apply.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire students.
      • Proficiency in architectural design and rendering software platforms.
      • Demonstrated creativity, innovation, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
      • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
