    Hours: 9:00AM-7:00PM, 7 days on (Wed-Tues)/7 days off. No on call required

    The Pharmacist shall exhibit professional and technical skills to provide clinical support and drug distribution services in coordination with physician and nursing services for delivery of quality and cost-effective drug therapy for patients.     Responsibilities:

    Professional Judgement Functions
    Practices pharmaceutical care.
    Responds to medical emergencies(codes) in both the ER and inpatient setting.
    Ensures appropriate antimicrobial therapy in the emergency department via culture call back program.
    Ensures the accuracy of medication reconciliations completed by ER pharmacy technician.
    Serves as a drug information resource for healthcare providers, patients, and their families.
    Responsible for all functions performed in the practice of pharmacy. Maintains responsibility for any and all delegated functions including functions delegated to pharmacist-students, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy support persons.
    Pharmacy Operations
    Ensures the legal operation of the pharmacy, including meeting all inspection and other requirements of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
    Maintains records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to maintain accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
    Complies with policies and procedures for all operations of the pharmacy.
    Establishes and maintains effective controls against the theft or diversion of prescription drugs, including controlled substances, and records for such drugs.
    Utilizes an ongoing systematic program of continuous quality improvement for achieving performance enhancement and ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical services.
    Basic UPH Performance Criteria
    Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
    Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
    Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
    Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
    Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
    Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

    Qualifications:

    Education

    Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy.
    Experience:
    License(s)/Certification(s)

    Obtain Iowa Pharmacist License within 90 days of hire
    Valid Iowa Drivers License and proof of insurance
    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to read, write, and speak English.
