Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Software Developer.
The Software Developer is responsible for enhancing, maintaining, and securing in-house developed applications and interfaces to integrate commercial applications used within USI. Administration of applications is generally provided by the Applications Administrator, allowing for segmentation of duties. The Software Developer works with end users in business areas to understand their needs and solve their issues. This person also serves as a backup for other software developers supporting multiple departments and applications, assists with complex projects and issues as they arise, and with training of new software developers.
Duties/Responsibilities
Develop enhancements to improve the functionality of in-house developed applications
Troubleshoot issues with existing in-house developed applications, and develop patches to correct deficiencies.
Evaluate security of existing in-house developed applications, make recommendations for improvements, and implement approved changes
Build testing strategies and plans based on project requirements and system design
Implement automated and manual test procedures to meet or exceed design standards & performance standards
Write documentation related to development work and share ideas with team
Enhance the development process by identifying, proposing & implementing improvements
Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful university community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior with faculty, staff, students and visitors to USI. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems or related field.
Proficiency from experience or coursework with database programming with either Oracle PL/SQL or MySQL.
Proficiency from experience or coursework with at least one modern programming language such as PHP or Python or similar scripting language. Proficiency with Linux at a user level and shell scripting.
Ability to work independently using sound judgment in technical knowledge and problem solving.
Attention to detail and timely follow up skills required.
Strong organizational and communication skills required and the ability to work effectively and respectfully within a diverse environment.
