Responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON):
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilities.
Make recommendations for developing, maintaining, and periodically updating the Policy and Procedure Manual to the Administration and VP, Clinical Services.
Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents total regimen of care.
Participate in Facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies, as necessary or as may be directed.
Assist the Quality Assessment & Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
Assist the Discharge Planning Coordinator in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the written procedures for the Discharge Planning Program.
Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
Requirements of the Director of Nursing (DON):
Registered Nurse with current state license.
3 years of supervisory experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
Must have a current/active CPR certification.
Excellent technical, assessment and documentation skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift fifty (50) or more pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Able to stand and/or walk for more than four (4) hours per day.
Able to bend and/or stoop for more than one (1) hour at a time.
