- Perform laboratory experiments that include cell culture, molecular biology, confocal microscopy, protein purification.
- Coordinate and participate in a variety of routine technical duties by providing assistance to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate students, and staff.
- Order supplies and equipment for the lab and maintain an organized system of operation.
- Participate in weekly group meetings and assist in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques, based on established objectives.
- Facilitate collaborations with other laboratories and clinicians to obtain clinical samples.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
- The laboratory specialist position is open to candidates with varying levels of experience. Salary will be commensurate with level of position.
- Bachelor's degree or 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

The Stukenberg Lab at the University of Virginia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the School of Medicine is hiring a Laboratory Specialist at either entry, intermediate or senior level.
The lab specialist performs and assists with laboratory management and experimental procedures in Dr. Todd Stukenberg's laboratory. The Stukenberg lab focuses on cellular mechanisms of mitosis and how these are dysregulated during cancer progression. Most of the experiments are based on in vitro biochemistry and tissue culture cells. The experiments to be performed will be tailored to the candidates experience and needs of the lab.The goal will be to allow the candidate to grow as an experimentalist by increasing the complexity and the number of techniques they are responsible for over time.
In addition, the candidate will handle sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Research employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.What you will do:

This is a restricted position and continuation will be dependent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
