BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives.

At work in over 40 countries and 28 US cities to restore safety, dignity, and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.

Domestically, our 28 offices across the US ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF VISTA WORK:
The VISTA will gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while practicing and applying grant management methods to maximize the reach of IRC programming in Florida

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with the Florida Development Team to review IRC Florida's donor prospecting strategy.
• Grow a database for opportunities identified and conduct ongoing research related to pre-award grant opportunities.
• Update grants calendar regularly and alert Development staff to application deadlines.
• Attend grants webinars and information sessions.
• Draft grant proposals for Grant Coordinator or Senior Development manager review.
• Provide support as needed in other areas of identified projects.
• Work with the Resource Development Team and Communications Interns to raise the visibility and credibility of IRC Florida by providing information about IRC's client needs and journeys to self-sufficiency, IRC's program effectiveness, and opportunities to engage with IRC as a donor, volunteer, intern or family sponsor

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

The VISTA will:

• Gain experience in grant management, which is a crucial skill to move up in the non-profit sector.
• Learn the pre-award process for building a funding portfolio in a non-profit.
• Learn the basics of proposal development and play a key role in ensuring proactive responses to business development needs.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming.
• Gain experience drafting and writing grants of aligned projects.

Please note this is a PAID position, with health supplementary plans and paid federal holidays off, contracted by AmeriCorpsQualificationsCANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

• College graduate or undergraduate in a related field of International Relations/Development, Social Work, Global Human resources, Learning and Development; Non-Profit Management, International Business, or other relevant fields.
• Comfort with research, organizing content, and liaising with staff.
• Strong writing skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate.
• Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
• English fluency is required.

This position begins May 6, 2024 and ends May 5, 2025. The VISTA will work in the Tallahassee office and will work remotely 1 day per week. This position will report to the Development Coordinator.
