    JOB OVERVIEW:

    The Orthopaedic Institute is currently seeking an Authorization Specialist to join our team. The primary function of the position will be to obtain pertinent insurance benefit information and authorization for patients scheduled to receive services at our office.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Responsible for ensuring insurance companies are contacted to verify benefits through phone calls and/or web based sites
    • Prioritizes workload to ensure deadlines are met
    • Documents the insurance and authorization verification information in the EMR system
    • Ensure coverage restrictions are documented and addressed
    • Completes any additional job duties as assigned
    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSE:

    None

    EDUCATION:
    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • 1 - 2 years' experience in benefit verification or related field preferred
    SKILLS:
    • Excellent customer services skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Ability to multi-task, manage details and organize efficiently and effectively.
    • Must have knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, knowledge of health insurance industry practices and/or medical billing procedures
    • Experience with medical scheduling/billing systems is desired
    • Computer literacy required

    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-40 pounds.
    • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
    • Travel may be required to existing or new TOI locations.
