- Position Summary
- Under general supervision, performs specified duties on an assigned nursing in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

- Utilizes handoff communication at shift change.
- Monitors cardiac rhythms, documents rhythms hourly and heart rate. Runs rhythm strip at the beginning of every shift & analyzes rhythm.
- Reports changes in the cardiac rhythm immediately to the nurses caring for the patient. Runs strip of rhythm changes for nurses to analyze and document.
- Updates providers daily as needed regarding patient events in the last 24 hours.
- Maintains and cleans cardiac monitoring equipment. Informs Biomed when there is equipment malfunction. Discusses equipment malfunctions with nurse manager.
- Verifies stock of needed supplies for cardiac monitoring, i.e. lead wires and batteries.
- Inspects each pack for any damage after each patient use.
- Assists patients, families and visitors with various needs to enhance customer service.
- Participates in staff development and orientation of new staff.
- Attends and participates in 50% of department unit meetings.
- Completes required rhythm strips and annual test.
- Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
- Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
- Completion of basic EKG class with grade of at least 80% within 90 days of hire.
- Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
- Organizational Requirements:
- Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and communicate oral and written English.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and appropriately when under stressful conditions.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of computer skills related to cardiac monitoring.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
