    Job Summary

    CenterPoint Energy is looking for LCL 227Mainline/Fab-Shop Apprenticeto join our Gas Operations District, located in Houston, TX.

    You will have the ability to: perform company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

    Essential Functions
    • Participate in teams of 2-3 members to accomplish given assignments
    • Load and unload required equipment, tools and supplies onto and from truck
    • Set up safety, warning, and instruction signs and cones
    • Locate gas lines using probe bar
    • Excavate ground to access gas lines which may include, but is not limited to, the use of picks, shovels, sharp-shooters, jack hammers, and pavement saws
    • Dig ditches during gas line excavation process
    • Cut and grind pipe in preparation for welding
    • Uncover main gas valves, risers, etc.


    Essential Functions ctd.
    • Fill in holes made to access gas lines and may include, but is not limited to, shoveling dirt and/or sand and tamping dirt (compacting) with either manual or mechanically driven tamper
    • Perform housekeeping activities around job site after work has been completed
    • Assist in attaching pipe, T's, risers, etc
    • Train for performing higher classifications jobs
    • CenterPoint Energy reserves the right to use employees in other job disciplines or job functions other than the discipline hired
    • Perform other duties as assigned


    Additional Skills
    • Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, pass all required training courses within the required timeframe.
    • Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to Company's values and business practices and do both consistently.
    • Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
    • Able to provide a valid state driver's license and present and maintain a good driving record and to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
    • Able to attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period of 150 working days.
    • Able to attain welding certification within the probationary period of 150 working days.
    • Able to attain welding certification within the two year Mainline/Fab-Shop Apprentice program.
    • Able to complete Mainline/Fab-Shop Competencies within two year Mainline/Fab-Shop Apprentice program.
    • Able to attain NCCCO Crane Operator Certification within two year Mainline/Fab-Shop Apprentice program.
    • Able to learn to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher and a two-ton or larger truck.
    • Able to use the proper tools for any given job.
    • Able to assist in preparation of pipe for welding.


    Education Description
    • High School Diploma or GED


    Experience
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Work outside in all types of weather conditions
    • Respond to emergencies during and after normal working hours
