    Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) - Interior Design

    Department of Art + Design

    Holland College of Arts & Media


    Primary Responsibilities:
    The candidate will teach courses, assist with curriculum development and accreditation processes, and advise undergraduate students in interior design.

    In addition, the candidate will assist with student recruitment and retention activities, engage in university and community service activities, serve on departmental/college/university committees, complete scholarly activities, participate in professional organizations, and network with representatives from the interior design industry and business community.


    As a public regional university (with a graduate mission), Southeast seeks candidates with a commitment to excellent undergraduate (and graduate) education and student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model.

    Applications of instructional technology and pedagogical research are supported through the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Online Learning.

    Successful candidates will contribute to the development of innovative curricula and delivery strategies, including traditional, blended, and online formats, and participate in initiatives promoting student success, retention, and degree completion.


    • Terminal degree in interior design or architecture (Ph.
    D., MFA, MID, M.Arch) and NCIDQ eligibility and certification of completion upon tenure OR a master's degree in interior design or architecture and NCIDQ certification. (Degree must be from a regionally or internationally accredited government-certified university.)

    • Demonstrated academic or professional experience in interior design or architecture
    • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity (publication, creative design work, research)
    • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting and illustration programs
    • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial and residential building codes
    • Evidence of involvement in professional organizations
    • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence
    • Demonstrated potential for providing effective service to the department, college, and university
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with internal and external constituencies of the University

    The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art + Design includes the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Art; Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with emphasis areas in Ceramics, Graphic & Interactive Design, Painting, Photography & New Media, Printmaking & Fibers, and Sculpture; Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design.

    All degrees are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD).

    In addition, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
