Job description

Feed mill mechanics repair, program, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and adjust equipment and machines to provide optimal performance. Execute work orders and perform preventative maintenance and repair for all feed mill related equipment. 

Duties/Activities Required by Job:

  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and repair complex equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machinery.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance (PM) tasks to ensure the proper functioning and longevity of all plant equipment and facilities.
  • Systems Expertise: Work with various systems including motors, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, control panels, compressors, chillers, and boilers, with the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480 volts.
  • Installation and Modification: Assist with new equipment installations, changeovers, and perform fabrication and welding tasks as needed for modifications or repairs.
  • Documentation and Analysis: Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work performed, track parts usage, and participate in root cause analysis to identify permanent solutions for failures.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), confined space protocols, and OSHA requirements, to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with production staff, other technicians, and engineers to solve problems, support production needs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Hours: 6:00PM - 6:00AM / Sun. - Thurs.

Educations/Experience Requirements

  • Education: High School Degree, Technical training and/or mechanical certifications.
  • Experience: Typically requires 3-5+ years of multi-craft maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical/mechanical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams is crucial. 
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in Three-phase Electrical Power, Hydraulics, Maintenance Fundamentals and Mechanical Concepts. 
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting (up to 60 lbs.), standing for extended periods, bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing ladders or working from heights.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
