    Hiring Range: $42,000 - $47,000, commensurate with experience

    Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

    Job Description:
    Tidewater Community College presents an exciting opportunity for a Lead Teacher to join the team at the Child Development Center on the Portsmouth Campus. As a key member of the center, you will play a vital role in providing leadership and oversight within the classroom. Additionally, you will work closely with operational managers to ensure the smooth running of programs and maintain positive customer relations. Your responsibilities will include facilitating student access to educational resources, supporting their learning journey, and adhering to state licensing regulations and high-quality educational standards.

    This essential position requires the ability to supervise children aged 6 weeks to 12 years, develop schedules and activity plans, and effectively communicate using approved child development techniques. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, provide guidance to assistants and interns, and possess knowledge of program evaluation tools and techniques.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ability to supervise children of various ages
    • Knowledge of developing schedules and activity plans for child development centers
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children
    • Experience providing guidance to program assistants and interns
    • Knowledge of program evaluation and national accreditation standards
    • Effective communication with parents regarding children’s progress
    • Proficiency in relevant software applications
    • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Active Virginia teaching license in early childhood education or early childhood special education
