    The Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS) Legal Division is hiring a Law Clerk for Summer 2024 and beyond.

    LASERS is a state agency that administers a defined benefit pension plan for state officers, employees, and their beneficiaries. Our membership totals approximately 100,000 members.

    Verification of enrollment from the University will be required upon hire. Students do not need to be registered during the summer sessions in order to be qualified for student status.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school in pursuit of a Juris Doctor degree.

    Regular attendance is an essential job function. Candidates must be able to work 15-20 hours per week.

    Preferred Qualifications


    • Must be a self-starter with the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
    • Must have the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with legislative, courthouse and judicial staff.
    • Must be able to grasp the fundamentals of the laws governing pensions, in particular those governing LASERS.
    • Must have a good understanding of Louisiana community property law.
    • The candidate should possess a general knowledge and experience in the use of a computer and various software applications.

    Assist Attorneys with:

    • Preparation of legal pleadings and memoranda
    • Legal research
    • Drafting and promulgation of state rules and regulations
    • Confirmation of the issuance of legal documents by various courts
    • Miscellaneous other projects
